Lake Mutanda is nestled in the foothills of the Virunga Mountain Range, at an altitude of 1,800 metres. The three volcanoes within the range, that are partly located in Uganda, namely: Mount Muhabura, Mount Sabinyo and Mount Gahinga, can be viewed from Lake Mutanda. There are several islands in the lake. The lake is drained by the Rutshuru River, which flows northward to Lake Edward. Uganda, 2016.
The fur of the mountain gorilla, seen in the image is often thicker and longer than that of other gorilla species, and enables them to live in colder temperatures. Gorillas can be identified by nose prints unique to each individual. Males, at a mean weight of 195 kg upright standing height of 150 cm usually weigh twice as much as the females, at a mean of 100 kg and a height of 130 cm .
