Htangawi is a 54 year old woman from the Muun tribe. She lives alone now after her husband and her only son past away. Htangawi explains how tattooing her face was extremely painful but she can still remember how proud she felt once she was finished. Like many tribal women from this part of Myanmar she started smoking in her early teens. This was a way of repelling insects whilst working in the fields.
